Audit Associates

We are currently seeking Audit Associates for our Albany and Manhattan, NY offices.  As part of the Financial Services team, the Audit Associate will be responsible for:

  • Execute the daily activities of audit engagements for BST's diverse clients.
  • Anticipate and address client concerns and performance improvement opportunities.
  • Recognize and inform senior management of opportunities to increase service to clients.
  • Provide high quality customer service that meets or exceeds client expectations.
  • Remain up to date and practice BST's Audit policies and procedures.

Position Requirements

  • Minimum of 2 - 5 years in Public Accounting with audit experience.
  • Ability to obtain CPA licensure
  • A Bachelor's degree in Accounting.

Audit Manager - Governmental Contract Mangement

We are currently seeking an Audit Manager who will supervise in-direct cost rate audits, pre-award, and close-out audits of government contracts, on behalf of government agency clients. The candidate may also be assigned to supervise financial, compliance, and internal control audits of state and local government agencies and not- for-profit agencies.  This position may also involve supervision of audits of transportation providers including railroads, utilities, transit operators, and airports. The position requires some overnight travel.

Responsibilities:

  • Executing the daily activities of audit engagements for BST's diverse clients.
  • Preparing audit plans.
  • Anticipating and addressing client concerns and performance improvement opportunities.
  • Providing high quality customer service that meets or exceeds client expectations.
  • Remaining up to date and practice BST's Audit policies and procedures.

Position Requirements

  • Five or more years of progressively responsible auditing experience with a CPA firm or government agency that complies with Government Auditing Standards.
  • Two years of experience auditing government contracts and indirect cost rates using Federal Cost Principles (48 CFR 31) criteria.
  • CPA licensed or CPA qualified
  • Two or more years of experience in a supervisory role.
  • Working knowledge of Federal Cost Principles (48 CFR 31) as well as Government Auditing Standards, Generally Accepted Accounting Principles, Generally Accepted Auditing Standards, and Statements of Standards for Attestation Engagements.
  • Ability to travel overnight regionally and nationally 20-25%

Senior Manager - Retirement Services

We are currently seeking a Senior Manager-Retirement Services.  As a Senior Manager in BST's Retirement Services Department, you will be responsible for business development to include: meeting with potential clients, referral sources and BST partners both in Albany and New York City for the purpose of developing new business and bringing in new clients and expanded services for BST Retirement Services..

You will also be responsible for managing the day to day plan administration and service needs of assigned clients.  Other responsibilities include: billing and collection of fee for clients in your portfolio; the preparation or review of the professional services performed for clients in order to insure timely quality service. 

Essential Functions

  • Responsibility for overall client satisfaction with plan administration services including quality work, timeliness, and customer service.
  • Maintains expertise on current professional practices, as well as changes or proposed changes to pension law.
  • Recognize the opportunity for providing additional services to clients.
  • Perform all aspects of administration and annual compliance of retirement plans.
  • Preparation of plan reports and 5500's.
  • Review and processing of participant loan and distribution requests.
  • Responds to administration questions from clients and individuals.
  • Perform ADP/ACP nondiscrimination testing and other non-discrimination testing.
  • Perform calculation of contributions, including new comparability and age-weighted.
  • Help to expand and develop new services.
  • Assist in practice management, including the review of current procedures for purposes of increasing the efficiency and delivery of quality service.
  • Assist in the development and coaching of team members.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Position Requirements

  • BA/BS degree
  • Minimum of three to fifteen years of experience in retirement plan consulting and administration.
  • Strong skills in Word and Excel
  • Knowledge of ERISA, IRS and Department of Labor regulations and their application.
  • Knowledge of retirement plan terminology and concepts.
  • Knowledge of economic and accounting principles and practices, the financial markets, banking and the analysis and reporting of financial data.

Tax Manager

We are currently seeking a Tax Manager for our Albany, NY office.  As a Tax Manager, you will lead a team of professionals to work through difficult tax issues with clients.  You will maintain control over all aspects of multiple engagements including budget, work product review, and staff supervision.   You will be responsible for assisting with staff development through reviewing staff work, offering constructive feedback and identifying areas of development. Project management responsibilities include tax research, managing time in relation to the engagement budget, as well as identifying new or expanded business opportunities.

Essential Functions

  • Supervise multiple tax engagements and staff at one time.
  • Supervises preparation of and reviews income tax returns
  • Reviews tax provisions on audit and review engagements.
  • Reviews complex tax returns
  • Maintains good working relationships with assigned clients.
  • Maintain expertise on current professional practices, as well as changes or proposed changes to tax law.
  • Assists with and maintains responsibility in the professional development of staff members.
  • Performs tax planning and research; resolves complex tax issues. Gives recommendations to clients.
  • Provide guidance and coordination to various staff members as needed.
  • Assists Partners with practice development and practice management.
  • Participates in monthly Scheduling Meetings and assists in the preparation of client billing as requested.
  • Represents BST via membership(s) in professional and service areas.
  • Maintains regular contact with assigned clients. Develops a good relationship through personal attention and timeliness of service.
  • Recognize the opportunity for providing additional services to clients.

Position Requirements

  • Minimum of a Bachelor's degree in Accounting or a related field.
  • Minimum of five to seven years of public accounting experience with a primary focus on taxation.
  • Must possess CPA certification.
